Federal Government Resumes the Death Penalty After 16 Years

The federal government recently announced that they have scheduled several executions later this year. The last time this occurred was in 2003.

For now, the Department of Justice scheduled five executions. However, they also mentioned that additional executions would be scheduled at a later date.

The death penalty is an incredibly controversial punishment in the United States, due to the ineffective and often painful methods of executing those on death row. While under President Obama, executions were put on a freeze after concerns were raised about these methods. However, the future of this policy was put into question when the recent administration resumed the practice.
