Supreme Court Deems "Three Strikes" Law Unconstitutional

Although such laws have come before the Supreme Court five times in the last seven years, this summer would be the final time. In an 8-1 decision, the court determined "three strikes" laws are unconstitutional based on the inability to maintain a fair and indiscriminate execution of such laws.

Fourth of July DUI Arrests Down Slightly in San Diego, Orange Counties

Statistics from this year's July 4th show a small drop in DUI arrests in some parts of California. Holiday DUI arrests reached 747 last year, 48 of them occurring in San Diego, according to the California Highway Patrol. The same span of time this past July 4th saw 803 arrests across the state with 47 happening in San Diego County.

Former Orange County Clerk Forges 1,000 DUI and other Cases

A former Orange County clerk had been illegally resolving roughly 1,000 DUI and misdemeanor traffic cases, according to court officials. The clerk, who no longer works with the court, perpetrated a scheme whereby mainly Latino defendants were illegally and fraudulently given heavily reduced penalties or punishments which were never realized.
