New California Law No Longer Allows Condoms as Evidence in Prostitution and Sex Work Cases
Governor Newsom recently signed into law a bill that stops the practice of using condoms as evidence in cases involving prostitution, sex work, and other related crimes. Additionally, the bill protects sex workers who report or are the victim of serious felonies such as rape or assault.
The bill is a big step forward in protecting the safety of California sex workers. Previously, the law might encourage unsafe sexual practices, and disincentivized sex workers from reporting serious crimes that happen to them or those around them.
